Melissa Balin

Holding a well-respected Hollywood pedigree and a member in good standing of the Screen Actor's Guild since the age of 5, Melissa Balin produced 4 feature films that received international festival recognition and distribution prior to her own feature directorial debut, FreezerBurn The Movie- all before she turned 30 in 2005. CEO of The Brookturn Co., Balin earned a global reputation for outside-of-the-box thinking by being the first person to sell the distribution rights to a film via eBay during the Cannes 2005 Festival & Market.

Balin is often found at the forefront of new technologies, having produced the first WireImage Cannes Portraits for photographer & WireImage Co-Founder, Jeff Vespa, and having served as the Director Of Marketing for HD EXPO, a unique industry symposium for High Definition and beyond. She has spoken on panels at Sundance, Cannes, Cinequest, Berlin and in Washington D.C. about her inventive use of technology to create art informing social action, and is responsible for creating, producing and directing such successful multi-platform New Media campaigns as:

  • Vote For Change Video Postcard campaign (co-directed with pop-culture icon, Shepard Fairey), resulting in over a million downloads in the two weeks prior to the election of the 44th President of the United States.
  • Green Means Go! a celebrity Public Service Campaign promoting Solutions For Greener Living.
  • "Make It Stop." a Power Over Pain campaign shot by world renowned cinematographer, Laszlo Kovacs, ASC, which debuted during the 5th European Congress of the International Association For The Study Of Pain, held in Istanbul 2006.
Melissa Balin recently produced and directed the 2009 Campus Chill Out Awards & Public Service Campaign for the National Wildlife Federation. Balin also donates her time on the Board of Directors of the Foundation For Orphaned, Abandoned, Disabled, African Children and as the New Media Advisor for The Ashti Drum Peace Project.
